ESL technology presentation

For ITEC 7400, I created a presentation concerning technology integration into ESL/ESOL teaching.  This presentation contains many links of sites to assist with this integration.

  • After viewing the presentation, please take a moment to fill out this survey, which will give me much-needed feedback on the presentation.

Also, please feel free to go back in these blog entries and browse the other topics that I have created informative screencasts for.  Don't be shy!  Request a tutorial on a web tool or techie topic that you would like to learn and I would be happy to incorporate it here!

School Culture Survey-Parents and Others

Thank you so much for assisting me with this project!
I have divided this into 2 parts.
Each of these is a form in Google Docs.

The first form is a survey about how often these elements of school culture are seen/are evident to you, whether as a parent or family member of a student, community member, etc.  This form is linked here.

The second form is to rank the IMPORTANCE to you of these characteristics for Montegut Middle to be successful.  The 2nd form is linked here.

The more data I have, the better, so send this link on to anyone you think would be interested in assisting me.

I will compile this information starting Thursday, 7/7.  Sorry for the short notice!

Fun with Flickr

To quote Will Richardson in his book Blogs, wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms (3rd edition):

"Imagine not only being able to put your own or your students' photos on the Web to share with other audiences- what if you could invite other people from around the globe to have discussions about those images?  What if you and your students could annotate them with your descriptions and observations?  What if you could become a part of a community that contributes images of similar topics for you to consume?  And what if you could consume those images via an RSS feed so anytime a new picture was added about a topic you were studying it would automatically come to you?"

I know that little bit of text got me excited about learning how to use Flickr!  Now it's your turn!

  • For Flickr beginners, start here with this screencast to get you started with an account and to upload photos.

So now to have a little fun with those photos!

  • First we will learn geotagging photos, which adds a location to your photos on a map.
    • Follow this screencast to learn how to add photos to your map on Flickr.  This sets a location for them for viewers as well.

VoiceThread

Here I have compiled a list of links with description to assist you in learning how to use VoiceThread in the classroom.

  • I suggest you start by watching this video to get an overview of what VoiceThread is.  (I went ahead and linked it as well as embedding.)

Excited about using VoiceThread?  I know I was when I first saw this overview!  So let's get started with some step-by-step screencasts of how to get started.

Step 1:
  • This screencast will take you through the registration process, as well as setting up your users/class and uploading images to create slides in the VoiceThread.  (The screencast is linked here, as the embedded version was way too small to see.)

Step 2:
Now that you have your account set up, users organized with photos, and images uploaded for the VoiceThread, let's get our students in there to chat about their work!

Thank you for participating in this VoiceThread tutorial.

One more thing!

Please click here for a link to a feedback form on GoogleDocs, which I will use to determine the usefulness of the screencasts to learn VoiceThread, as well as to plan future tutorials.
